Hodgson Lake; a lake dedicated to Telfair Hodgson

Hodgson Lake was dedicated in 1892 in recognition of the Rev. Telfair Hodgson, who came to Sewanee in 1878 to serve as dean of the Theology Department. He was elected Vice-Chancellor the next year. Hodgson had served in the Confederate Army as both soldier and chaplain. Frances Potter Hodgson gave the money to construct St. Luke’s Chapel as a memorial to her late husband. Today the structure serves as a concert venue.
