The establishment and dedication of Shoup Park, honoring the Confederate Brigadier General and Sewanee faculty member and chaplain Francis A. Shoup, are unknown. The earliest reference in published sources appears in 1953. It is located across the street from Shoup's residence on Tennessee Avenue.
