Located in University Cemetery, University of the South, this marble block etched with "CSA" (Confederate States of America or Army) appears on the grave of Robert Kelso Dabney, Jr., a planter owning 45 enslaved people in Powhatan County, Virginia, in 1860, a Confederate Army veteran and, after the Civil War, a professor of metaphysics and other subjects at the University of the South. Although related to one another, Robert Kelso Dabney is not to be confused with his contemporary Virginian, Robert Lewis Dabney, author of important Lost Cause texts. Records indicate that Dabney's gravestone was installed in 1881; the installation of the CSA marker, and the circumstances of installing it, are unknown.

Marker is marble and measures 6 inches by 6 inches square. Its height and depth are unknown. The gravestone is a 12.5 foot tall obelisk surmounted on a pedestal.
