The dining hall was built in 1958 and served Rollins students until it was demolished in 1999 and turned into the Cornell Student Center. It had a terrace looking over Lake Virginia with new kitchen facilities for students to enjoy.
Rose Skillman (1887-1983), who was born Rose Pilhashy in Cincinnati, Ohio, was the founder of the Skillman Foundation, which seeks to provide education for impoverished children from minority backgrounds. She married Robert Skillman, 3M's East American sales representative. After his death, she started making contributions to organizations that served children and eventually founded the Skillman Foundation in 1960. During this time, she donated to Rollins College in order to contribute to the college's goal of liberal education.
The foundation continues to serve minority groups through educational programs and financial contributions, with its headquarters located in Detroit.
