Eric Johnston Science Center

The Eric Johnston Science Center was dedicated in the fall of 1966 as a center for biology, chemistry, geology, and physics. The building was named for Eric A. Johnston, whose Johnston Foundation provided the funding necessary for construction. The project cost $1.1 million. The building has seen renovations in 1997 and 2003, which included updating of classroom and lab spaces as well as the installation of computer labs, a telescope, and an observatory. The building currently houses the Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science departments.
Among many different occupations, Johnston served as president of the Motion Pictures Association of America from 1947 to 1963. In this role he supported studio executives who aimed at whitewashing Jim Crow segregation in order to portray mutually beneficial race relations in US film to the world.

The building is a 41,000 square foot, L-shaped structure. It includes a small lecture hall, science labs, classrooms, and faculty offices.
