Title
Watercolor tributes to Hopkins's early renderings of Sewanee's Domain
Background and Context
This series of watercolors, painted by a descendant of the Episcopal Bishop of Georgia, Stephen Elliot (1806-1866), is a tribute to John Henry Hopkins' 1859 watercolor renderings of Sewanee's Domain, which then encompassed an area of around 10,000 acres. The Rhett watercolors hang in the Hearth Room of the Sewanee Inn opposite the Hopkins originals.
