Interview with Edith L. Bultman; a one-time event with a Davidson employee

On October 18, 2012, Tyler McFayden interviewed Edith Bultman for a seminar course in the Lula Bell’s Resource Center, the former campus laundry facility. The Davidson College employee began her employment in the campus laundry service before moving to Vail Commons, the primary dining service for students on campus, in the early 2000s.
Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Bultman discussed her childhood as the second of nine children, education in West Africa and England, and her relocation to the United States. Due to her own educational history, she stressed the importance of attaining a proper education throughout the interview. While expressing pride at her daughter’s attendance at NC State University, Bultman saw the increased number of Black students as a positive direction for Davidson College. Acknowledging that she enjoyed her work at the college, she expressed a desire to return home to West Africa in the future.
