Meredith College is a women’s college located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Founded in 1891 and opened on September 27, 1899, the college was originally named Baptist Female University (later Baptist University for Women). In 1909, the college was renamed once again to its final name in memory of Rev. Thomas Meredith (1795-1850), a proslavery Baptist minister and early advocate of women’s education.
