Located in University Cemetery, University of the South, this marble block etched with "CSA" (Confederate States of America or Army) appears on the grave of Bower W. Barnwell opposite his gravestone. According to the widow's petition by his wife Florence, Bower was a native of Beaufort, S.C., who enlisted in the C.S. Army in 1862 (Rutledge Mounted Riflemen) and served until war's end.
