Charlotte Manigault Society; donor recognition society named to commemorate Charlotte Manigault
-
Established by the fund-raising division of the University of the South in 1988, the Charlotte Manigault Society recognizes persons who leave major gifts by including the University in their estate plans.
The society is named for Charlotte Manigault, the University's first major benefactor. In 1876, Manigault made the funding gift that enabled construction of St. Luke’s Hall for the Theology Department (today's School of Theology). She also donated other valuable artifacts and funds to support scholarships for Theology students.
