Constructed in 1937, this dormitory was dedicated to Dr. Edward P. Hooker in recognition of his contributions to Rollins College. Over the years, the building has served as home to several campus organizations, including the Kappa Nu fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and, currently, the Chi Psi fraternity. The dormitory has undergone two major renovations: the first in 1979, which included the addition of a wing with student rooms, a lounge, and a library, and the second in 2007, which updated key spaces such as the chapter room and Alpha Room.
Dr. Edward P. Hooker (1834–1904) served as the first president of Rollins College from 1885 to 1892. As one of the College’s founding members, Hooker, alongside Frederick W. Rollins, played a pivotal role in securing Winter Park as the location for Florida’s first institution of higher education.
Before joining Rollins College, Dr. Edward P. Hooker served as pastor of the Winter Park Congregational Church. His theological background helped shape the New England values that became integral to the Rollins curriculum. Despite Winter Park’s segregationist origins, Hooker’s Congregational Church supported the construction of an African-American church in Hannibal Square, reflecting a commitment to community building and inclusivity.
