Background and Context
Spotswood Hall is a freshman dormitory in the Botetourt Complex, constructed under the leadership of President Graves. A portion of the building houses the Sharpe Community Partnership Program (2024-2025 is the last year that Sharpe students will live at Spotswood). Constructed along with all the other buildings of the Botetourt Complex from 1971-1973. The residence hall was named after former Governor Alexander Spotswood. During this time as governor, seventeen people were enslaved at the Governor's Palace.
Physical Description
This is a Brutalist brick building. It is a small dormitory that can only hold 80 residents. There is an external stairwell and small vertical windows that provide light to dorm rooms. The third-floor bedrooms have AC-window units.
