Stone memorializing Fred Rogers

The “Walk of Fame” was created in 1929 by then president Hamilton Holt to honor significant historical figures. The memorial is located in the center of campus around Mills Lawn.
In March of 1991, Rollins College memorialized Mr. Rogers in their Walk Of Fame. Mr Rogers was given this honor because of his contributions to mankind which included activism during Civil Rights. For instance, Mr. Rogers was the first person on television to share a swimming pool with a African American man who played Officer Clemmons on his show. He followed this encounter by singing “Many Ways to Say I Love You" to Officer Clemmons. This was a step forward for the Civil Rights Movements. The school recognized the achievements of Mr. Rogers and memorialized him as such.
