Lavern C Cureton was born on December 16, 1968 in Baltimore Maryland. She was raised by her single mother Janice in Statesville NC along with her two older brothers. Cureton’s reflections on her life in the interview focused on her time in high school. She wished she had concentrated more on school and pursued higher education after graduating West Iredell High School. She spent some time in college for computer programming but was unable to finish her education there. Despite her regrets, she looks back fondly at her time as a student, recalling her experiences gaining popularity along with her sister as she began to fit in at school. She also talks about her experiences as a student athlete and her achievements in track and field. Through her experiences as a student, she wants to impart her wisdom on her own two children. She wants to support their dreams in college and the NFL while also keeping them on the right path, according to her, focusing more on education.
Later in the interview she discussed her time at Davidson and what she noticed as an employee over her time working here. She began working at the College in 2005 as a laundress before quickly moving to building services in order to gain full time benefits. She claimed she found her Niche at Davidson as she was unhappy with all the jobs she worked after she finished school. She continues to work at the college as a vital staff member.
