Biography
Vanessa Monette Victor was born in February 1957 in Boston, MA. She was the second oldest of eight siblings, with five brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Fisher College in Boston, MA. She enrolled and then paused her studies at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, to start a family. She had two daughters with her spouse John Grant. She resumed her education at Lincoln University when her eldest daughter began the fourth grade. She divorced Grant and remarried in 2006.

Victor worked a variety of jobs before arriving at Davidson College. She began her career in IT and then worked at a bank and Houghton Mifflin Company. In 2002, she relocated to Charlotte and supported her eldest daughter who attended law school at North Carolina Central University. She also volunteered at her church and broader community.

In 2005, Victor began working at Davidson College as an administrative assistant for five departments: Anthropology, Hispanic Studies, Mathematics & Computer Science, Philosophy, and Russian Studies. In this capacity, she supported day-to-day operations and coordinated departmental needs. Additionally, she actively contributed to Davidson College staff assembly, and numerous other college initiatives. She retired after twenty-years of employment. Her tenure and contributions were acknowledged at the college-wide Davidson College Employee Appreciation event on May 22, 2025. Since retirement, she has continued to work with voter registration campaigns, outreach ministry, and other Davidson community organizations. She also serves on the board of the Davidson Housing Coalition and the Davidson College Foundation.
