Located in University Cemetery, University of the South, this marble block etched with "CSA" (Confederate States of America or Army) appears on a grave without an identifying headstone. However, it is immediately next to the grave of Jeff D. Castleberry, which identifies him as "Son of JM & FJ Castleberry" [James Marion and Frances Jane Wiley Castleberry.] James Marion Castleberry served in a Tennessee Confederate regiment for the duration of the Civil War, and he and his wife were residents of Sewanee. Born in 1842, Castleberry died in 1907.
