McKean Hall; A dormitory hall dedicated to Hugh F. McKean

McKean Hall was originally built in 1962 as a dormitory for men, and was initially called New Hall. In 1972, it was renamed in honor of the past Rollins College President Hugh F. McKean. The dorm was torn down in 2019 to make a new dormitory as part of the college's construction for the Lakeside Residential Complex. It was rebuilt in 2020, and named once again after McKean.
Hugh F. McKean was the 10th president of Rollins College, as well as an artist, educator, museum director, collector, writer, and philanthropist. He became Rollins College president in 1951 and retired in 1969.
Under his presidency, Rollins College integrated black students into the student population. Furthermore, McKean portrayed local racial tensions through his art, and even went as far as to attend a Ku Klux Klan meeting so as to try and gain an understanding of the group's hatred and racism.
