Meredith college dormitory/residence hall building, named for Ida Isabella Poteat, William Louis Poteat, and Edwin McNeill Poteat, Jr. All three Poteat family members served as trustees or faculty for Meredith College and were honored for their service by naming this dormitory after them. The brother, sister, and nephew were longtime Baptists and heavily engaged in either ministerial or educational work (and sometimes both) on behalf of Baptists. William Louis Poteat served as President of Wake Forest University while his nephew Edwin McNeill, Jr. was pastor of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. William Louis Poteat was both a staunch defender of academic freedom and an enthusiastic proponent of eugenics. Ida Isabella Poteat headed the art department at Meredith College for four decades during the early twentieth century where she also founded and advised the K.K.K. Art Club.
