Christian Aid Society Cemetery

January 1905
-
Created in January 1905, Black Davidson members of the Christian Aid and Benevolent Society organized the cemetery as a safe, permanent and dignified burial space. Many of the founders and interred individuals had connections to Davidson College from slavery to the present. In addition to these individuals, military veterans, community leaders, and residents, past and present, are interred.
On July 7, 2000, the Christian Aid and Benevolent Society entered a NC General Warranty Deed agreement with the college to assist with landscaping and maintenance while the organization retained authority over site. On March 7, 2018, a motorist damaged several headstones and fencing. Repairs were completed. The cemetery remains an active burial space.
