Lula Bell Houston worked in the Davidson College Laundry for over 20 years and was the first black staff member to man the Laundry Check-In Desk. After her retirement, the laundry building was renamed the Lula Bell Houston Laundry and stands today now as the Lula Bell Resource Center after the Laundry service ended in 2015.

Her legacy will live on in Lula Bell’s, an on-campus resource center that aims to prepare students for success at and after Davidson.
